The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled a new initiative that will allow tourists to obtain health insurance when applying for visas.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) announced that the ‘health insurance for tourist visas’ initiative is part of its ‘transformative projects’, as reported by the UAE’s English daily, Khaleej Times.
A UAE government official stated that the initiative will enable tourists to obtain health insurance while applying for their visas online via the ICP website or app.
The initiative is designed to provide emergency health coverage by simplifying the health insurance process through a digital platform. This platform will oversee the pricing and issuance of insurance packages from top insurers across the UAE.
“Ensuring that all travelers have insurance coverage provides assurance that they will be covered for hospitalization in the event of an unexpected medical emergency. It also guarantees that the government and private hospitals in the country won’t have to cover the costs of emergencies for visitors,” Ramzi Ghurani, Managing Partner at Petra Insurance Brokers, told Khaleej Times.
Industry experts in the UAE have also praised the initiative, noting that it will enhance the “tourist experience” and reinforce the UAE’s status as a leading vacation destination, according to Khaleej Times.
