An Indian professional working in the U.S. on an H1B visa recently expressed frustration with the visa renewal process, calling it a “nightmare” because of the ongoing challenges in booking appointment slots through the U.S. consulate’s Dropbox program.

Issues with Slot Availability

Posting on Reddit, the worker explained the difficulty in securing Dropbox appointments, sharing, “I’ve been searching for over a month, but no slots for India are available.” He further explained that when slots do appear, they are often for dates within a few days, which complicates planning for those based in the U.S.

The Dropbox program allows H1B visa holders to bypass an in-person interview by submitting renewal documents at Visa Application Centers across India. However, the limited and unpredictable availability of slots has made it increasingly difficult for many to coordinate travel for these appointments.

Travel Complications

Expressing his frustration, the worker added, “I need to get my visa stamped before November for an upcoming trip to India, but I can’t just book a ticket and hope slots become available at the last minute. It’s incredibly stressful.”

Others in a Similar Situation

Many other H1B visa holders echoed similar frustrations in the comments. One user wrote, “I’ve been looking since August for November or December slots, but nothing is available. I have to go to India, no matter what.” Others mentioned how the unpredictable slot openings are affecting their work schedules, as they need to request leave in advance but can’t finalize plans without a confirmed appointment.

For many H1B holders, the lack of reliable Dropbox slot availability is creating significant challenges, making it difficult to organize necessary travel and manage time off effectively.
