Expanding direct international flights and simplifying visa procedures are poised to significantly boost tourist arrivals in India, according to a recent report. The “How India Travels 2024, The Inbound Edit” report, published by Booking.com, highlights the need for a collaborative effort among key stakeholders, supported by targeted investments, to propel India’s tourism to new heights.
The report indicates that over half of inbound tourists consider India a standalone destination, while a third plan to combine their trip with visits to other Asian countries. This underscores India’s growing importance as both a primary destination and a key stopover in regional travel itineraries.
Search data from Booking.com shows a shift in the top inbound source markets for India, with the US, UK, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates now leading, replacing previous frontrunners like China, Canada, and Bangladesh. Newcomers to the top 10 include Hong Kong, Australia, Italy, and the Netherlands.
India’s major cities—Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Chennai—continue to be popular among international visitors, consistently ranking as the top five destinations.
