Canada has introduced updated visa regulations tailored for international students. The new measures incorporate an online system enabling Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) to authenticate letters of acceptance (LOAs). DLIs are required to validate LOAs within a 10-day timeframe, as failure to do so may lead to the cancellation of visa applications. These modifications are geared towards enhancing efficiency in the application process and safeguarding against fraudulent activities.
According to a report from CIC News, Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) are now required to verify Letters of Acceptance (LOAs) through an online portal within a 10-day period as part of the updated system. Failure to complete the verification within this timeframe or if the letter is deemed fraudulent will lead to the cancellation of the student visa application, although the applicant’s fees will be refunded. This initiative is aimed at addressing past instances of misuse in Canada’s international student programs, such as a case involving nearly 700 Indian students facing potential deportation due to fake acceptance letters created by an unauthorized immigration consultant.
Starting from December 1, 2023, Canada implemented a revised version of the study permit application form (IMM1294). According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), applicants using the IRCC secure account must use this latest version for submitting study permit applications. Applications received on or after December 1, 2023, using the previous form version will not be considered valid, as per IRCC’s statement.
